Ring in the Holidays with MYAC Free Concerts 12/13-12/21!

There is perhaps no time of year during which we turn more sincerely to music and tradition than we do during the holidays. In the spirit of giving, our orchestra and choral students will present several free concerts during December.

Symphony Orchestra opens the season at Northbrook Court Mall on December 13 at 3:00pm. Even as malls continue to fade from the landscape, this performance reminds us that the size of the audience isn’t what matters most. What matters is touching whoever is there. Our conductor, Dr. Allan Dennis, often shares a story about a lone gentleman who heard the orchestra play at the mall years ago and afterwards thanked the conductor, saying: “Now I’m ready for Christmas.”

On December 14 at 1pm and 3pm, all three MYAC choral ensembles, which include students from Kindergarteners to 12th grade, along with Concert Orchestra, will present two free concerts at Ravinia’s Bennett Gordon Hall (Highland Park, Il). With works and arrangements by renowned composer and long-time MYAC friend and collaborator Gary Fry, paired with beloved staples, these programs welcome folks of all faiths and ages to celebrate together.

Tickets are free, but we encourage you to reserve your seats in advance.

To reach further audiences and fellow musicians, MYAC’s Symphony Orchestra and members of our high school choir VocalPoint will present two free family concerts at the Riviera Ballroom in Lake Geneva on December 21 at 2pm and 4pm, which will include a sing-a-long with traditional favorites of the season.

Tickets are free, but space is limited. We encourage you to reserve your seats in advance.

Finally, to those most in need of music’s healing touch, we will bring chamber groups to Lurie Children’s Hospital in collaboration with the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. The world-renowned pianist Lang-Lang has been a long-time friend of MYAC, and we have been honored to collaborate with the Lang-Lang scholars–an international collection of extraordinary young pianists–for more than a decade. Together, their pianists and our string players will present a chamber music concert at the MYAC Center in Highwood, IL on December 20, 5:30 - 6:30 pm and at the hospital on December 21. The program will feature Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, along with some music for the holidays.

It is our privilege to share with our communities the warmth which we feel in our rehearsals as we bring this warm-hearted music to life. Each performance reminds us that music unites and uplifts our spirits. We invite you to join us at our concerts in celebrating the season’s joy and the gift of music.
