MYAC Welcomes New Development Assistant!

Originally from New Hampshire, Mariah Goulet (she/her) earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of New Hampshire, and a Masters of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory (UMKC).

Post-Master’s, Mariah continued at UMKC in pursuit of an Artist’s Certificate. In her final semester, she suffered a career-ending performance injury and was unable to complete the certificate program. With this unexpected major life shift, she spent a year bartending full-time before pursuing a career in other passions including marketing, writing, and serving the community.

Recently, Mariah has presented a lecture on her performance injury at the national North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference and launched her website in debt with a collapsed soft palate. This online platform serves as a resource for musicians and educators dealing with performance injuries, and includes a candid blog and interviews with musicians in the field. This website has been highly praised and shared throughout studios at multiple universities.

How and when did you first hear or learn about MYAC?
When I was moving from Kansas City to Chicago I was searching for a new job and that is how I found out about MYAC! I thought with my background and work experience it would be a great fit so I applied to the organization.

What is your favorite thing about your role here?
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens and the fact that I can quote The Sound of Music in an interview for the organization I work for. It's so lovely working in an environment that celebrates the importance of music in everyday life.

What is your professional background, and how do you bring that experience here?
I am a professional musician with multiple years of experience in marketing, graphic design, and event and office coordinating. In my position as Development Assistant, I am excited to bring these skills to the table and to offer a new point of view to the development team.

What is something you are excited about in your role here?
I am eager to find new ways to engage with the community, form new relationships, and expand MYAC's presence and impact.
