James Ripley is excited to join the faculty at MYA as the Director of Wind Symphony Programs. Currently, he serves as the head of the music department and music education program at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI where he also conducts the Carthage Wind Orchestra and Carthage Concert Band. Mr. Ripley also serves as principal guest conductor of the Sakuyo Wind Orchestra at Sakuyo University in Kurashiki, Japan. Prior to his appointment at Carthage, Mr. Ripley served as assistant professor of conducting and ensembles at the Eastman School of Music, where he was the associate conductor of the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra, and as conductor of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble at the River Campus of the University of Rochester. Before teaching at Eastman, he was a faculty member at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and at Luther College. He taught in the public schools of Iowa and Minnesota for eleven years. Mr. Ripley holds a B.A. from Luther College, M.M from Northwestern University, and a D.M.A from the Eastman School of Music. His daughter, Jacy, is a member of the MYA Symphony Orchestra.
