Music educator, workshop clinician, producer and performing artist Fred Koch is excited about returning to MYA in his new position as Director of the Mighty Maestro Singers (3rd–4th grade) and the Little Maestro Singers (1st–2nd grade). Mr. Koch’s involvement with MYA began in 1991 when he worked with Dr. Dennis to develop an after school music enrichment class for elementary school students, a group guitar class, and a series of concerts for MYA’s Outreach to the Schools program. Since then, Mr. Koch has performed numerous times with various MYA orchestras and has brought the joy of music to thousands of Chicago school children through the MYA sponsored concert series Teddi and Fred Koch LIVE with The Lil’ Cow Band.

Mr. Koch has 25+ years as an award-winning K–4 music specialist with Lake Forest (IL) School District 67. In 2006, he was named a Finalist for the distinguished GOLDEN APPLE AWARD and is also the recipient of the Kohl International Prize for Exemplary Teaching. Along with his wife Teddi, Fred provides professional development for early childhood teachers in the Chicago Public School system with an ongoing series of workshops, Music Across The Curriculum. Mr. Koch’s views on music integration in the classroom are featured in the book Best Classroom Practices – What Award-Winning Elementary Teachers Do, published by Corwin Press (1999).

His recordings for young children have won numerous Parents’ Choice awards and he continues to contribute to other children’s music projects as producer, co-writer and arranger. Fred’s songs appear on Greg & Steve’s CDs including “Kids In Motion,” “Kids In Action,” “Big Fun,” “Fun and Games,” “Shake, Rattle & Rock” and their 2008 release “Jumpin’ and Jammin’.” Fred also produced Mr. Al’s award-winning “Rock The Baby” and wrote and produced 3 songs for Money Savvy Generation, a financial literacy curriculum for elementary schools.

Mr. Koch continues to receive critical acclaim for the monthly children’s music review column he writes for Chicago Parent magazine as well as for his website, BestChildrensMusic.com which he founded in 1999. In 2008, Mr. Koch assumed a new teaching role in District 67 as a K-4 Technology Coach and recently received his GOOGLE CERTIFIED TEACHER accreditation.

Fred Koch resides in Lake Bluff with his wife Teddi and their son, Matthew.
