Benjamin Gray graduated from the Northwestern University School of Music with a degree in both choral and instrumental music education. Upon graduating, Benjamin taught vocal and general music at Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, Illinois for four years. During his time at Woodland, the choir he directed doubled in size and received “I” ratings each year at the Illinois Grade School Music Association contests.
Benjamin earned his Masters of Music Education from the University of Michigan in July of 2007. Benjamin’s past mentors in both conducting and music education have been Stephen Altop, Jerry Blackstone, Cheryl Frazes-Hill, Bruce Hall, Robert Harris, Maud Hickey, John Lynch, Paul Rardin, Carol Richardson, Julie Skadsem, Sandra Snow, Mallory Thompson, Peter Webster, Nancy Whitaker, and Betty Anne Younker.
In August of 2007, Benjamin became the director of choral activities at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, Illinois. His duties include directing the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs as well as the spring musical. His 8th grade choir at Deerpath performs in DisneyWorld each year, as part of Disney’s “Magic Music Days” Festival.
