Sarah Barnes is an active performer and percussion teacher in the Chicago area. In addition to teaching percussion privately, she is the Director and founder of the nationally recognized MYA Percussion Program (2009 Chicago Chamber Music Competition Overall Winner; 2009 Rembrandt Chamber Music Honorable Mention and Jules M. Laser Competition Honorable Mention; 2006 & 2004 Gold Medalists Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition). Sarah graduated magna cum laude from the Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Music Performance. She has performed with Music of the Baroque, Northshore Choral Society, ARC Chamber Ensemble, Evansville Philharmonic, Kentucky Symphony and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She performed in Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite with the CSO on Traditions and Transformations: Sounds of Silk Road Chicago, featuring Yo-Yo Ma. Her teachers have included members from the Percussion Group, Cincinnati, Keith Aleo, John Alfieri, Michael Burritt, Stuart Chafetz, and Eugine Espino. She is currently Principal Percussionist with the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra. Sarah also serves on the Board of Directors for International Chamber Artists (ICA), a professional group of talented musicians located in Chicago under the artistic direction of pianist and conductor Patrick Godon.
