“Sensational Soloists” to Perform at Pick-Staiger
Overall Winners of the 2019 Walgreens National Concerto Competition will perform with MYAC orchestras on February 23, 2020 at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University.
The all day concert event begins at 1 p.m. with performances by MYAC Choral groups and youngest orchestra students, followed by concerts at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. featuring the competition winners performing their winning solos with MYAC Concert and Symphony Orchestras.
MYAC Junior Division Winner Cordelia Momo Frederickson will perform Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto #3 in B minor, Mvt I. Allegro non troppo, MYAC Senior Division Winner Ella Saputra will perform Paganini’s Concerto #1 in D Major, Mvt I. Allegro Maestoso and Open Division winner Masha Lakisova will perform Bartok’s Violin Concerto #2 in B minor, Mvt I. Allegro non troppo.
These talented pre-college musicians were selected from over 200 entrants in the annual competition, held annually and open to young instrumentalists and vocalists across the country. The 2019 competition took place December 28-30 at the MYAC Center in Highwood, IL and Bennett Gordon Hall at Ravinia in Highland Park, IL. A full list of winners is available here.
Entrants competed for prizes, scholarships, and performance opportunities including the chance to perform on the prestigious “From The Top” radio program. Generous sponsorship from the Walgreens company allows each entrant to receive a professional video recording of their solo audition, as well as written comments from a distinguished panel of judges.
