Kenni Ther, Jazz Program Coordinator

How and when did you first learn about MYAC?

I’ve known about MYAC  back when I was a high school student in Lake Zurich and through some of my classmates in undergrad. I have my Bachelors in Music Education and my Masters in Performing Arts Administration, so when I saw this opening for Program Coordinator I knew that this would be a good opportunity and fit for me.

What is one thing about MYAC that initially impressed you?

What first stood out to me was just the large number of students that are a part of MYAC and their abilities. Hearing them play at Fun Fest and listening to past recordings have really impressed me and has given me a good idea of the expectations MYAC has for its students and staff.

What is your favorite thing about your role here?

What I am looking forward to is working closely with conductors, coaches, and the students. Making sure we provide the best experiences possible for everyone involved with MYAC. From my personal and professional experiences, preparation & communication is the way to make sure students and teachers are set up for success!

What is your professional background, and how do you bring that experience to your role here?

I have over six years of experience as a band director, personnel manager, and arts administrator for public schools, community ensembles, and multiple non-profit music organizations that have prepared me for this role. I have always enjoyed figuring out large puzzles and knowing how multiple schedules work together, so I have no worries about keeping up with the fast-paced world of MYAC.

What is one thing you’ve learned about MYAC after you started working here?

One thing that I’ve learned since I started here is that it's an organization that has a long history of caring for its students. Lots of great guest musicians, amazing opportunities provided, and dedicated teachers.
