This competition attracts over 225 competitors from across the nation each year. The Walgreens competition has become a name brand in the music world as young musicians look for opportunities to perform or professional musicians list this competition in their bios and resumes. Marketing for this competition reaches thousands of music teachers and directors and youth music programs across the country.
Flyers, magazine ads, e-blasts and other publicity surrounding this competition puts the Discover name in front of an audience of parents, educators and supporters of the arts who value the opportunities chamber music brings to young musicians. The competition is the only one in the nation for pre-college students that offers opportunities for strings, piano, and wind and brass ensembles to earn prizes, separating it from others.
Allstate is supporting MYA's Young Music Scholar Program. This program gives students who wouldn't find their way to MYA a chance to participate in our Orchestra Program and receive private, small group music lessons from MYA student mentors who are chosen from juniors and seniors from MYA's Symphony Orchestra.
Support from these organizations as sponsors of our annual benefit allow MYA to offer need based financial aid so that any student accepted into MYA programs can participate.
