Clarinet Workshop
For students interested in receiving intensive musical training on clarinet.
Midwest Young Artists is pleased to announce the continuation of its popular Clarinet Workshop, held at the MYA Center at Fort Sheridan in Highwood, Illinois. The Clarinet Workshop offers intensive musical training on clarinet. The workshop will build students' confidence both musically and personally. Students will perform daily, focus on building good fundamentals, and learn to play musically within a chamber group. The workshop provides an opportunity for students to experience the training that it takes to become a professional clarinetist.
The purpose of the workshop is to introduce students to the establishment of a solid technical foundation for exploring important literature for solo clarinet, in chamber music, and orchestral settings. There will be a focus on select technical studies, sonatas, concerti, and orchestra excerpts. Assignments will be made prior to arrival with the expectation that the student has done preliminary preparation prior to the seminar. Also, there will be an hour a day dedicated to the discussion of reeds, including reed making, adjustment, maintenance, and mouthpiece selection.
There will also be daily masterclasses in which individual students will be able to perform and observe their peers. Plus, there will be guest speakers and time dedicated to listening to recordings by important clarinetists of the past and today. This will be a great opportunity for students to grow as well-rounded musicians.
