Sarah Barnes is an active performer and percussion teacher in the Chicago area. In addition to teaching percussion privately, she is the Director and founder of the nationally recognized MYA Percussion Program (2009 Chicago Chamber Music Competition Overall Winner; 2009 Rembrandt Chamber Music Honorable Mention and Jules M. Laser Competition Honorable Mention; 2006 and 2004 Gold Medalists Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition). Sarah is a magna cum laude graduate from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music/University of Cincinnati where she earned a Bachelor in Music Performance.
She has performed with Music of the Baroque, Northshore Choral Society, ARC Chamber Ensemble, Evansville Philharmonic, Kentucky Symphony and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She can be heard performing Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite with the CSO on Traditions and Transformations: Sounds of Silk Road Chicago, a CSO Resound recording featuring Yo-Yo Ma. Her teachers have included members from the Percussion Group, Cincinnati, Keith Aleo, John Alfieri, Michael Burritt, Stuart Chafetz, and Eugine Espino. She is currently Principal Percussionist with the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra.
Sarah currently serves on the Board of Directors for International Chamber Artists (ICA), a professional group of talented musicians under the artistic direction of pianist and conductor Patrick Godon, located in Chicago, IL.
