What are you doing now? Do you still play your instrument?
I still play the violin. I was admitted in Roosevelt University and Civic Orchestra of Chicago in 2008.
What do you remember most from the competition?
The warmth from the people around me who supported me and the environment between MYA competitors was just fantastic.
Do you have any tips for working with an accompanist?
I feel if you know the piano part it is half way to success. I learned my lesson when my pianist Tatyana Stepanova asked me to sing the piano part and I felt so embarrassed I didn't know how the piano part went.
Were you nervous for the competition?
I was quite nervous before going to stage. My plan is to always to breathe in and out really slowly for 30 seconds before going on stage. I fell very relaxed after.
What is your advice for participants in the 15th Annual Walgreens Concerto Competition?
My best advice would be to never give up. I feel anything can be achieved if you want it bad enough. I learned that to win a competition, I had to play many competitions before I didn't win 1st or 2nd Prize until I got 1st Prize in MYA Concerto Competition.
